Norm struggles... try another AI

Gardening around the world
by Open AI

I wanted to run a fun test today with Norm, the agriculture based AI... it is still in its "beta" stage, so issues pop up.  Today was no exception as the online interface locked up and failed to return a response.  I've assembled some actions to take when you become frustrated with AI, and in particular today I went with #7:  Try different platforms.  So I switched over to Bard and got what appeared to be good, reasonable answers.

I hope that the team supporting Norm can work the kinks out, it's nice to have something focused on a specific subject matter.

Me:  Hey Bard!  Can you provide three specific steps that home gardeners should prepare to take during October 2023 for the following locaitons:  Kansas City, Missouri; Perth, Australia; Nadi, Fiji; Dublin, Ireland; and Mandera, Kenya?

Bard: Sure. Here are three specific steps that home gardeners should prepare to take during October 2023 for the following locations:

Kansas City, Missouri

  1. Clean up your garden. Remove any dead or diseased plants, and pull any weeds. This will help to prevent pests and diseases from overwintering in your garden.
  2. Plant cool-season crops. Cool-season crops such as lettuce, spinach, carrots, and beets can be planted in October and will harvest throughout the winter.
  3. Mulch your garden. Mulching your garden with a layer of organic matter such as compost or leaves will help to protect your plants from the cold winter weather.

Perth, Australia

  1. Plant summer vegetables. Summer vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and eggplant can be planted in October and will harvest throughout the summer months.
  2. Water your plants regularly. October is a hot and dry month in Perth, so it is important to water your plants regularly, especially during the first few weeks after planting.
  3. Fertilize your plants. Fertilizing your plants every few weeks will help them to grow strong and produce a good harvest.

Nadi, Fiji

  1. Plant tropical vegetables. Tropical vegetables such as sweet potatoes, cassava, and bananas can be planted in October and will harvest throughout the year.
  2. Mulch your garden. Mulching your garden with a layer of organic matter such as coconut husks or sugar cane straw will help to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  3. Protect your plants from pests and diseases. October is a humid month in Nadi, so it is important to protect your plants from pests and diseases. You can do this by using organic pesticides such as neem oil or chili peppers.

Dublin, Ireland

  1. Protect your plants from the cold. October is a cool month in Dublin, so it is important to protect your plants from the cold. You can do this by covering them with frost cloth or bringing them indoors at night.
  2. Plant winter vegetables. Winter vegetables such as cabbage, kale, and broccoli can be planted in October and will harvest throughout the winter months.
  3. Harvest your summer vegetables. Any summer vegetables that are still ripening in October should be harvested before the first frost.

Mandera, Kenya

  1. Water your plants regularly. October is a dry month in Mandera, so it is important to water your plants regularly, especially during the first few weeks after planting.
  2. Mulch your garden. Mulching your garden with a layer of organic matter such as manure or crop residues will help to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  3. Protect your plants from pests and diseases. October is a hot and humid month in Mandera, so it is important to protect your plants from pests and diseases. You can do this by using organic pesticides such as neem oil or chili peppers.

Please note that these are just general guidelines. The specific steps that you need to take will vary depending on your climate and the types of plants that you are growing.
